Travel itinerary

Overview

The Travel Itinerary feature allows you to create comprehensive travel plans by organizing your journey into logical segments. Each segment represents a portion of your trip with specific transportation details, locations, and timing information.

Key Components

Segments

A travel itinerary consists of multiple segments that collectively represent your complete journey.

  • Definition: A segment is a distinct portion of your travel journey
  • Elements:
    • Transportation type (e.g., flight, train, bus, car, ferry)
    • Departure information (time and location)
    • Destination information (time and location)
    • Notes
    • Stopovers

Stopovers

Stopovers represent planned breaks or intermediate stops within a segment.

  • Definition: A temporary stop between your departure and final destination
  • Optional elements:
    • Location
    • Time of arrival/departure
    • Duration of stay

Notes

Notes provide additional context or important information for segments or stopovers.

  • Use cases: Booking references, contact information, reminders
  • Attachment: Notes can be attached to segments or stopovers

Managing Your Itinerary

Adding Elements

  • Segments: Add as many segments as needed to complete your journey. Whenever a new segment is added, its departure point is set to the previous segment’s destination.
  • Stopovers: Add multiple stopovers to any segment when your journey includes intermediate stops
  • Notes: Attach notes to segments or stopovers for important details and reminders

Removing Elements

All elements in your travel itinerary can be removed:

  • Segments
  • Stopovers
  • Notes

Example Use Case

A typical journey might include:

  1. A car segment from home to the airport
  2. A flight segment with a stopover at a connecting airport
  3. A train segment from the arrival airport to the hotel

Each segment contains the specific timing details and any relevant notes for that portion of the journey.

Best Practices

  • Create segments in chronological order
  • Include buffer time between segments for unexpected delays
  • Add detailed notes for complex transportation arrangements
  • Document important contact information in segment notes
